How does the organic farming method work?

Conventional agriculture negatively impacted the environment because of the excess use of chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. Modern organic farming was developed as an antidote that has a fair share of ecological benefits. Organic farming makes use of eco-friendly pest controls and biological fertilizers made primarily from animal and plant wastes.

Crop Diversity: Polyculture or a cultivation technique that is used to grow a variety of crops simultaneously to cater to the increasing demand for crops.

Soil Management: The soil loses its nutrient content once the crops are cultivated. The use of bacteria, present in animal waste, enhances the quality of the soil and produces healthier crops.

Weed Management: Lowering the growth of weed instead of completely removing it affects the primary crops positively.

Controlling other organisms: Unwanted organisms can ruin your crops so it is important to use herbicides and pesticides that do not contain harsh chemicals. The whole farm should be sanitized frequently. If you have livestock it can increase the sustainability of the farm. Genetic modification is generally avoided to keep it all-natural.

This modern approach towards farming significantly reduces soil erosion and waste accumulation. It also decreases nitrate leaching into groundwater. However, there are certain drawbacks too, many can’t afford the higher food costs and lower yields.
